Ca.Ma kits are long out
of production, which is probably no great loss,
considering this kit. Although this was probably one of
the first complete kits that we had of the tank destroyer
M10 17pdr Achilles, I am not too happy with this kit,
considering its source. The main parts of the kit,
specifically the hull and turret, appear to be copies of
the Al.By resin Achilles, which was sold as a conversion
kit. Made into a full kit by adding copies of the
suspension parts from an old ESCI Sherman model, and
attaching the Al.By upper hull to the ESCI lower hull,
there seems to be little, if any, original work done
here. My apologies if I misjudged. Considering that the
hull and turret were originally made by Al.By, they do,
in fact, look rather nice. But the suspension parts leave
much to be desired (having been copied from the very poor
ESCI parts), and the gun barrel is terribly warped and
needs replacing. If one was to source a new suspension and track parts, then I think this could build into a fairly decent replica of the Achilles (but with only a limited hull interior). |
