Modeling the Sherman Tank in 1/72nd Scale |
MR Models Article by Doug Chaltry; last updated 18 November 2007. Also called steel bar cleat tracks. Enough track is included for one complete tank, with perhaps a little extra for stowage, though I'm not sure. Casting is excellent, with very few blemishes in the resin. Two styles of idler wheels are included in resin: open spoke and stamped, both with detailed hubs. Open spoke sprocket wheels are also included in cast metal. These track sets came out a while ago, when the only decent Sherman in town was the ESCI kit, so these sprocket wheels are included because they have the correct number of sprocket teeth, unlike the ESCI (now Italeri) kit. Theoretically these could also pass as T47 rubber cleat tracks, though I'm not sure how common those were. Based on the photos I've seen the T49 appears to be most common on British Shermans and Marine Shermans in the Pacific. |
