Modeling the Sherman Tank in 1/72nd Scale |
CMK Article by Doug Chaltry; last updated 18 November 2007. The first of four very similar detail sets from CMK. This set provides the earliest M34 mantlet for the 75mm-armed Sherman. The rotor shield lacks the side armor protection for the gun barrel, and there is no armored shield for the .30cal coaxial machinegun. You can't see in the scan, but the two lift rings are present on the top of the armored shield for the gun mount. The metal M3 gun barrel measures perfectly to 1/72nd scale, and although you can't see it in the scan, I think that the tip of the barrel is slightly flared, as it should be, though I may be wrong. It's really hard to see, even in hand. Also included are one complete and one empty cartridge. The complete round measures to be about 1mm too long for the standard armor piercing round, though my references on ammunition size are limited. Lacking from this set is a .30cal machinegun barrel, which will need to be provided by the modeler. |
