One of the biggest issues I have with the plastic machineguns included in our tank kits is the difficulty in removing them from their sprues without damaging their delicate barrels. Almost impossible to do, especially if the piece is actually molded close to scale, because the barrels are then quite thin and brittle. Thus the need for this here accessory from Schatton Modellbau. A single gun barrel in turned brass, with the end even drilled open. I would love to replace all of my kit gun barrels with this brass example, but that may end up being cost prohibitive...

Regarding its scale: finding references for this gun has proven difficult, but I found some scale plans for the Sherman tank that included the machinegun. Based on those, it looks like this piece may be about 1.5mm too long, measured between the lines shown below. However, when compared with the barrel lengths on the plastic guns that come with our kits, there is a great variety of lengths, and this piece lays squarely in the middle of the bunch, so I think it will be perfectly compatible with most of our kit guns.
